Our history
Born and raised in Ireland, in a seaside town called Cobh most famous for it being the last stop of the Titanic. A place that is steeped in historical events, where keeping traditions and remembering the past is important. I grew up being taught about Irish culture and the importance of Irish heritage.
In the summer months huge cruise ships came to dock in the port and bus loads of tourists would visit. During these times, there would be live music playing in the band stand, tours around the town taking place and my favourite part of it all was when all sorts of markets would set up in the local promenade to sell their goods and wares, items from books to soaps to food. You think of it and it was found somewhere amongst the stalls in the promenade.
I loved the atmosphere, the creativity, the individuality of each person and product. People coming from all different parts of the world and they were visiting to learn about Cobh and the locals, and I just wanted to soak in everything about where they lived and what drew them to our part of the world, what made them choose Cobh?
This was, without my realisation, the start of my love for creating crafts. The seed was planted, I'd been bitten by the 'arts and crafts' bug, I was obsessed. I spent most of my time trying out new hobbies and crafts, I learned how to bake cakes and sweet snacks, I taught myself how to make cards for all occasions, I learned how to sew and make clothing, and cushion covers, and teddies. Unfortunately, I lacked the confidence to really go out and sell my crafts, always had a worry that no-one would see the talent, skill, and effort involved in making each and every item.
Life of an adult took over and I spent a decade working hard as a healthcare worker. 2020 hit, coming out the other side, I knew my life had changed, I now had a little munchkin of my own to make blankets for, and of course I had to make them in every colour and design to match her outfits and colours.
My confident little girl thoroughly adores her blankets and cuddly toys. People started asking where I got her the blankets or cardigans and when I told them I made them myself, it seemed everybody wanted one. It was the boost I needed.
Finally with lots of encouragement from loved ones, Munchkins Blanket was brought to life. A place where our little ones come first and each individual item is made with so much love and uniquely for them. I did this to create something that is not only beautiful but also includes my love for traditional Irish culture. With this in mind, all of my products are named after Irish mythology and folklore, a lot of my products integrate hints of the old Celtic or Irish designs.
I truly hope that each and every product brings every person joy, happiness and a warm feeling of being loved.
